Former Conservative leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith has called for benefits to be immediately increased in line with inflation to help the poorest cope with the cost of living.
The senior Tory MP also called for tax cuts for those in work to help "the squeezed middle".
"During the course of this spike, we should make sure we bring those benefits that are relevant to those people who are in need up to be able to afford to pay bills that are going to be higher," Mr Duncan Smith told Sky News.
