Police officer charged with sexual assault to appear in court this week

A police officer from Sheffield will appear in court on Tuesday after being charged with rape.

Rowan Horrocks, 26, a former police constable from the city, will appear at Leeds Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

He is accused of raping a woman on 28 November last year in South Yorkshire.

Horrocks was based in the South Yorkshire Police response team, but was not on duty at the time of the alleged offence.

He has since been suspended from duties, and an internal investigation is also under way.

Superintendent Delphine Waring, who heads up the force's Professional Standards Department, said the case is being taken "incredibly seriously".
